First Rocket Troop R.H.A.
The 1st
Rocket Troop, commanded by Captain Lane had five hundred twelve-pounder rockets and forty ‘rocketeers'…The
Greatest Fury by William C. Davis, p. 42-43. My version of this troop is a nice set from Eagle Figures. The rocket tripod, troughs and sticks are accurate representations of what the R.H.A utilized at New Orleans, Leipzig and in the Peninsula. However, the figures are very plain with little detail. Complementing the troop are an R.H.A. officer and bugler from Steve Barber Models. These are very nicely detailed figures down to the small RHA crest on their Tarleton helmets. This is another welcome addition to my Battle of New Orleans collection.
For details on the uniforms, equipment and operations of the R.H.A rocket troops see, Uniforms of the British Rocket Troops in the Napoleonic Wars, C.E. Franklin, Autumn 2003, Journal of the Society for Army Historical Research. Also see British Napoleonic Uniforms by C.E. Franklin. Lastly, Napoleon at War, Number 7, Trooper, Mounted Rocket Corps, RHA, 1814, del Prado/Osprey.
I am still experimenting with new LED lighting and my old digital SLR camera.
I clearly need more practice....a little too much light methinks.
Next up...the First West India Regiment.
